Cast Steel Ladles and Slag Pots

Our capabilities include the supply of these large, special castings, that must weather severe thermal conditions while containing and transporting molten metal. We supply ladles up to 100,000 pounds. To ensure a long ladle life and the ability to withstand thermal deformation and cracking, Boundary has established specifications for Foundry processing, inspection and material certification that meet or exceed ASTM standards.

  • Throughout manufacturing, the Foundry process is controlled with special emphasis on feeding of the casting to ensure soundness. Improved soundness and our two-stage heat treatment process increases ladle life.
  • Ladles are inspected by NDT methods, including magnetic particle, ultrasonic, and X-ray inspection. The level of inspection quality and areas to be inspected comply to your needs. Normally, all ladles are 100% magnetic particle inspected and trunnions, ribs and tail hooks are UTD'd. Any upgrading is at ASTM approved welding methods.
  • Mechanical testing, as required for ASTM A-27, is performed; and, results are referred to in the unique serial number cast into each ladle. This serial number is also used to reference NDT reports.
  • Most ladles are supplied in ASTM A-27 65-35 material, but other grades are also available.
Boundary also supplies carbon steel, steel rolls, and heat resistant steel for your other requirements in the smelter or steel plant.
